Dignity Health Heart and Vascular Institute of Greater Sacramento is among select facilities in the nation to offer patients Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge Repair, formerly referred to as Transcatheter Mitral Valve Repair—a minimally invasive cardiology procedure to treat mitral regurgitation.

What is Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge Repair?

Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge Repair is a minimally invasive procedure that treats leakage of the mitral valve without requiring open heart surgery. The procedure is FDA-approved for patients who are considered at an elevated risk for surgical mitral valve repair.

Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge Repair uses the MitraClip®, which is inserted via the femoral vein. The anterior and posterior leaflets of the mitral valve are clipped together, reducing the regurgitation from the mitral valve.
