Asthma Information & Management (AIM)

Dignity Health developed the Asthma Information and Management (AIM) program to provide education and disease management information to those who have been diagnosed with asthma. In addition, it offers specialized care and education by highly skilled respiratory care practitioners.

Asthma Management Program

AIM addresses the needs and problems of adults, children and families struggling to cope with asthma in the Greater Sacramento region. With self-management skills and a clearer understanding of the disease, people with asthma can better cope with their illness and live healthier, more productive, and more active lives.

The goals of the program are to:

  • Improve your quality of life through better understanding of the disease
  • Decrease hospitalizations through better practice and education

AIM for Adults

This is a three-hour class packed with very valuable information about asthma. A doctor referral is not needed to attend these classes. There is a nominal charge to help cover costs and material. (Note: Fee may be waived if necessary.) Topics covered include:

  • Asthma triggers
  • Early warning signs
  • Peak flow monitoring
  • MDI instruction/spacer
  • Nebulizer device
  • Medications

AIM for Children

This class is designed especially for parents and children in kindergarten or older. Parents may attend alone if the child has not yet reached kindergarten. The three-hour class covers the same topics presented in the adult class.
