St. Joseph’s Awards $187,000 in Community Grants

St. Joseph's Medical Center has awarded nearly $187,000 in grant funding to three local community benefit organizations that provide critical health and human services to residents in San Joaquin County.

“Caring for our community, especially those most in need, is truly at the heart of our mission at St. Joseph’s” said Sister Abby Newton, OP, Vice President of Mission Integration and Spiritual Care. “We are proud to be collaborating with these outstanding organizations to improve the health and well-being of our community.”

This year’s St. Joseph’s Community Grants were awarded to the following three organizations:

  • Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Stockton in partnership with Community Partnership for Families of San Joaquin & Asian Pacific Self-Development & Residential Association, received $46,955 for the Health Connectors in a Community Health Worker Program which will focus on linking individuals with primary care providers, preventive care, and health education. 
  • St. Mary’s Dining Room in partnership with Stockton Shelter for the Homeless & Community Medical Centers, Inc., received $75,000 to increase access to mental health services for the homeless and working poor through the provision of an on-site mental health clinician at the two agencies.
  • Gospel Center Rescue Mission, Inc. in partnership with Gleason House Clinic & Hospice of San Joaquin, received $65,000 to assist in expanding the Homeless Medical Respite Care program, which provides round-the-clock shelter beds for homeless men and women who are who are in need of recuperative care.

The Community Grants Program was established in 1990 to provide funding to community-based organizations that provide services to individuals in need. Since its inception, the program has distributed over $2.7 million in grant funding to deserving nonprofit community benefit organizations with an interest in building healthier communities by improving health and living conditions. St. Joseph Medical Center annually sets aside revenues from operations to fund the community grant awards.
