This program is designed for high school students between the ages of 14 through 17 years old, who are interested in exploring careers in healthcare. This popular program is a great way to develop new skills, meet new people, observe caring professionals, and better compete for college scholarships.
The Summer Junior Volunteer Program begins the week of June 15, 2020 and runs for 4 weeks through July 10, 2020. Volunteers will be required to complete a minimum of 16 hours during the program (one 4-hour shift per week). Since the program has been shortened to 4 weeks this summer, you will be required to honor this commitment. If you can’t do that, you won’t be accepted into the program.
At Dignity Health, Junior Volunteers help with various tasks around the hospital, including helping in the nursing areas, answering phones at the information desk, assisting with miscellaneous office duties, making patient beds and helping visitors and patients get around our campus. This experience offers the opportunity for teens to gain self-confidence and improve their communication skills, while making a difference in people’s lives.
During this session students will get a glimpse into the many healthcare professions and hear first-hand from Dignity Health doctors, nurses and other medical professionals about what it takes to succeed in the healthcare industry. We encourage you to participate in this four hour session in addition to your 16 hour summer commitment. You will be notified of the 3 options to attend this session at a later time.
Students are placed in service areas based on the needs of the hospital as well as their availability. Minimum requirement for the program is 16 hours (one 4-hour shift per week for 4 weeks).
To be considered for the program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Once we have received your application we will send you more information on specifics for setting up your interview appointment.
Before your interview appointment, please print and complete the following forms. Bring all completed documents with you to your interview appointment in March. You must have all of your forms with you at your interview or you may not be admitted into the program.
Returning junior volunteers from last summer should follow the same process. Please complete a new application and make sure to indicate you volunteered last summer. The process will be the same as new applicants. The only difference is we will ask you a different set of questions at the interview. Please make sure to print out the forms above and bring completed forms to the interview.
Returning Junior Volunteers should email or call the Volunteer Services Office at 602.406.3020 for additional guidance.
If accepted into the program, all volunteers, new or returning, will need to complete an online orientation.
Interviews will take place on either March 7 or 14 and are on a first-come, first-served basis. Interview time slots are limited and go very quickly. Once your application is received we will send you information on the process to schedule the interview appointment.
Interviews are an important part of our selection process, so please arrive on time and dress appropriately. You will also need to bring your two Reference Forms to the interview appointment along with the Photo and Parental Consent forms.
During the interview you will be asked to answer questions regarding past volunteer experiences, best availability for volunteering, transportation plans, school and more. Students should have set arrangements regarding parent/guardian drop off and pick up, carpooling, etc. Most interviews are completed within 15 minutes.
