State-of-the-art facility offers dedicated rehabilitation services for adults and children

SANTA CRUZ, CA (September 21, 2018) – The new Dominican Hospital Outpatient Rehabilitation Center opened this week, offering the very best in physical, occupational, and speech therapy for adults and children.

The Center, located at 111 Madrone Street in Santa Cruz, offers rehabilitation services for a variety of orthopedic, neurological, and oncological conditions. Some highlights include wheelchair mobility, vestibular therapy for regaining balance, and the EksoGT bionic gait trainer, which helps our patients learn to walk more efficiently.

“Many of our patients have been through a very difficult illness or injury, and we are so pleased to be able to offer them a state-of-the-art space in which to heal,” said Nanette Mickiewicz, MD, Dominican Hospital president. “Our community deserves the very best, and nobody should have to go over the hill to receive this level of rehabilitative care.”

The building underwent $2 million in renovations to accommodate a dedicated pediatric gym, an assisted daily living kitchen, an exoskeleton robotic walker, and an expansive orthopedic/neurological therapy gym. The project was funded by Dignity Health, and more than $12,000 in community donations to the Dominican Hospital Foundation provided equipment for the pediatric gym.

The Dominican Hospital Outpatient Rehabilitation Center has 37 employees, 30 of whom are expert therapists, and sees nearly 25,000 patients each year. Dominican Hospital’s outpatient rehabilitation services relocated to the Madrone Street facility from its former home on Frederick Street.
