John Allen Named President of St. Mary’s Medical Center

Allen joined St. Mary's in December 2016 as the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer, and became the hospital's interim president in November 2017.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA. (January 29, 2018) – Dignity Health is pleased to announce the appointment of John Allen as President of Dignity Health St. Mary’s Medical Center, located in San Francisco, effective immediately. Allen joined St. Mary’s in December 2016 as the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer, and became the hospital’s interim president in November 2017. 

Allen has a strong reputation for collaborative planning among physicians, nurses and staff, and measurable achievement on growth initiatives. During his tenure, Allen has led several important initiatives for St. Mary’s, including the development of hospital services and cultivating partnerships with outside health organizations.

“I am dedicated to the mission of St. Mary’s Medical Center and Dignity Health,” Allen said. “As the longest running hospital in San Francisco, St. Mary’s has an important legacy, and I look forward to leading the hospital’s growth into the future.”

Before joining Dignity Health, Allen served as Chief Executive Officer of Titus Regional Medical Center, a rural regional health system in Texas. He also spent several years as Chief Executive Officer for Regency Hospital in Golden Valley, Minn. and Vice President of Patient Care and Support Operations for North Memorial Health Care in Robbinsdale, Minn. 
Allen holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Theater from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., and a Master’s of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Minnesota, Carlson School of Management.
