Health & Wellness Classes


In addition to our Cancer Center programs and classes on diabetes and childbirth, we offer free physical fitness classes and education on how to live healthy with a chronic disease.


Accessible Yoga

This yoga class welcomes all bodies into a gentle environment. Going at your own pace and letting your body be the teacher in this all levels class, you’ll learn the importance of breathing and self-awareness. Learn how to put yoga for all bodies and minds into an everyday approachable practice. Make sure to wear comfortable clothing. This class is made possible through the generosity of the Mercy Foundation donors.

Chronic Disease Self Management Program (CDSMP)

This is a six-week workshop that teaches you how to live a healthy life with chronic conditions. Examples of chronic conditions include diabetes, asthma, COPD, back pain, arthritis, hypertension, bronchitis, heart disease, and more. These workshops are free, however, they do require registration. This program is also available in Spanish.

Smoking Cessation Class

Fresh Start, also known as smoking cessation, is open to anyone that wants to quit tobacco use. This program is a collaboration with the American Cancer Society. This is a FREE 4 week program that meets one-hour each week and is taught by a certified Fresh Start facilitator. In this program you will learn about the benefits of quitting smoking and gain valuable knowledge and skills in order to plan YOUR quit date. Participants will be offered free smoking cessation patches, as well as a kit full of helpful resources.

Walk With Ease - An Arthritis Foundation Program

If you suffer from Arthritis or another chronic condition, come experience some relief with our 6 week Walk With Ease program— designed for (but not limited to) adults 18 years or older of varying fitness levels. Even if you do not have arthritis, but would like to begin a regular walking program to gain the benefits of regular aerobic exercise, and learn how to safely make physical activity a part of your everyday life, this program will be suitable for you! Sessions begin with a brief discussion on a topic important to successful walking or arthritis management. After the discussion, the group will warm up, stretch, walk, cool down and stretch one last time.

The Arthritis Foundation’s program is proven to:
  - Reduce the pain and discomfort of arthritis
  - Increase balance, strength and walking pace
  - Build confidence in your ability to be physically active
  - Improve overall health

Yoga

Yoga is known for its positive effects on the mind and body and can be enjoyed by people of all ages and levels of fitness. It's recommended that you bring a yoga mat, a twin blanket, and wear comfortable clothing to the class. We offer this yoga class for free and do not require any registration.

Zumba

Zumba is a fusion of Latin and international music combined with dance fitness moves to create a dynamic and effective cardiovascular and toning workout. This class is free and does not require registration. We recommend that you wear comfortable clothes and athletic shoes to this class. Children ages 12 and under are not allowed. Zumba is co-sponsored by the City of Merced’s Recreation Department.

To Register: Registration is not required to attend this class.
