Mental Health First Aid

St. Joseph’s Medical Center provides Mental Health First Aid courses to the community and does not charge for the instruction. There is a nominal cost per person for materials that are provided by the National Council for Mental Wellness. Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders. This training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to the appropriate care.

There are two class options available:

  • Mental Health First Aid is for adults working with other adults such as employers, police officers, hospital staff, first responders, faith leaders, active community members, and caring individuals. For more information click here.

  • Youth Mental Health First Aid is a class for adults working with youth such as teachers, school staff, coaches, camp counselors, youth group leaders, parents, and other caring adults working with youth. For more information click here.

The minimum size for this class is 5 participants up to 10 participants and are conducted either via Zoom or a blended version which contains online self-paced learning followed by an in-person 5 hour course. If you or your organization are interested in getting more information or are ready to schedule a class, please register by e-mailing [email protected] or call (209) 461-5142.
