Family Birth Center

Welcoming a baby into the world is one of life's greatest joys. St. Joseph's Family Birth Center is happy to help you usher in your new little bundle of joy and get them off to a healthy start.

Maternity care

At St. Joseph’s Medical Center, our way of caring for you and your baby is designed to encourage togetherness and bonding, to teach you baby care skills, and to support you in those first important hours after the birth of your child. We call our method “Mother-Baby Care” because our doctors, nurses and other members of our childbirth team provide care for both you and your baby together.

Our birthing center features:

  • Private labor and delivery and recovery suites
  • Private mother-baby suites
  • Two fully-equipped cesarean section suites
  • 24-hour obstetrical services
  • Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), Level III
  • Lactation consultant
  • Social worker
  • Sleeper couches and televisions in each room
  • Separate waiting area for families
  • Welcome tote filled with essentials for baby
  • Signature Dignity Health hydration bottle
  • Rejuvenating spa products
  • Aromatherapy to aid with relaxation
  • Hostess to take meal orders at the bedside

As San Joaquin County's first Baby-Friendly® designated hospital, we focus on giving breastfeeding mothers the information, confidence, and skills needed to successfully initiate and continue breastfeeding their babies. The Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative is a global program to encourage and recognize hospitals and birthing centers that offer an optimal level of care for breastfeeding.
