St. John’s Regional Medical Center Welcomes its First Baby of the Decade

Newborn boy arrives as a New Year's Day surprise to Oxnard family

OXNARD, CA– (January 1, 2020) – St. John’s Regional Medical Center (SJRMC), a member of Dignity Health is proud to announce the birth of its first baby in 2020. The healthy baby boy came into the world at 7:54 am weighing 6 pounds and 2 ounces and measuring 19 inches in length.

While this bundle of joy has yet to be named, the family has been enjoying their precious New Year arrival. This is baby number three for the Gomez-Gonzalez family. Mom and baby are healthy and doing well.

To celebrate and welcome our first little one of the decade, SJRMC staff presented mom, dad and baby with gift baskets filled with goodies, including:

  • A Ragamuffin Coffee Roasters gift card and mug for mom and dad, generously gifted by The Collection at Riverpark. The Collection generously donated gift cards for the first twenty families of 2020
  • Blanket and beanie hand-knitted by the Volunteers at St. John’s Hospitals
  • Plush toys for baby provided by the St. John’s Regional Gift Shop
  • Onesie set gifted by St. John’s Pleasant Valley Gift Boutique

“We are overjoyed by the birth of the first SJRMC baby of the decade,” said Darren Lee, President and CEO of St. John’s Regional Medical Center and St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital. “When a baby is born at St. John’s, a lullaby is played over the hospital intercom. Each New Year we eagerly wait to hear the first lullaby - it is a special and joyous moment.”
