Designated as the only Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center in Ventura County, St. John's Regional Medical Center is equipped to treat complex conditions affecting the brain with the most advanced technologies. Center of Excellence

St. John’s Neuroscience Center of Excellence is a well-regarded program, in particular for the treatment of stroke. To continue providing the best care to the residents of Ventura County and beyond, we have expanded our program by adding a world class neuro-interventional biplane angiography system, as well as additional program enhancements to perform brain clot removal, aneurysm repair, carotid artery stenting, advanced brain and tumor removal and intracranial hemorrhage stoppage. 


Certified Advanced Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center

St. John’s Regional Medical Center's Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center offers patients a broad continuum of care from Emergency Department treatment to in-house acute rehabilitation.
 

In order to provide advance, comprehensive care for stroke patients, the stroke team includes:

  • Hospital-based physicians available 24/7 with expertise in stroke diagnosis and emergency treatment
  • Registered nurses available 24/7 with expertise in stroke management
  • Physical, speech, and occupational therapists
  • Dieticians
  • Case managers and social workers

The team also relies on the excellent services of the Dignity Health pharmacy, Laboratory, and the Diagnostic Imaging Department.


Biplane Neuroangiography System

In addition to an experienced team, Dignity Health St. John’s Regional Medical Center offers cutting-edge technology to deliver the best possible care. Our biplane systems enable us to provide complete diagnostic and innovative interventional treatment of the brain and spine.

O-Arm Surgical Imaging System

St. John's Regional Medical is home to the only  O-arm Surgical Imaging System, in Ventura County, with the most advanced 3D imaging system available for brain and spine surgery. With the O-arm, we provide our community with local access to leading-edge, less invasive neurosurgery, a great benefit to you and your loved ones.

Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS)

DBS is a surgical option for patients with Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor, dystonia, and other movement disorders. DBS uses electrical signals targeting specific areas in the brain to control movement disorder symptoms. Now, St. John's Regional Medical Center makes it easier and faster for potential candidates to be seen by providing medical evaluation, psychological assessment, imaging, surgery, and post-surgical monitoring in one convenient location.

It is important for each athlete to know the signs and symptoms of a concussion and a potentially dangerous brain injury as well as the steps in the recovery process and in making a return-to-play decision. The Dignity Health Concussion Network is here to help every student athlete play safely.


Pipeline™ Flex Now Available at St. John's Regional Medical Center

We are pleased to announce that St. John's Regional Medical Center is proud to be the first hospital in the area to offer the Pipeline Flex to help treat certain patients with intracranial aneurysms. This minimally invasive procedure is utilized in selected wide-necked intracranial aneurysm treatments, which diverts flow away from the aneurysm neck, reconstructs the parent artery, and restores its natural course. 


Award-Winning Care

The Joint Commission has awarded an advanced stroke certification for Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center(TSC) to St. John’s Regional Medical Center. This means that our stroke center has met the rigorous standards for performing endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) and post-procedure care. 
 

Get With The Guidelines® - Stroke GOLD PLUS, 2021
Hospitals receiving Get With The Guidelines® Gold Plus Achievement Award have reached an aggressive goal of treating patients with 85% or higher compliance to core standard levels of care as outlined by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association® for three consecutive calendar years. In addition, those hospitals have demonstrated 75% compliance to (four out of ten heart failure quality measures or seven out of ten stroke quality measures) during the 12-month period.

Target: Stroke Honor Roll-Elite, 2021
Door-to-needle times within 60 minutes for at least 85 percent of applicable patients.

Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll, 2021
This distinction acknowledges hospitals that aims to ensure patients with type 2 diabetes receive the most up-to-date, evidence-based care when hospitalized with CVD or Stroke.
