St. John’s Named One of America’s 100 Best Hospitals

Oxnard, CA – Dignity Health – St. John’s Regional Medical Center announced today that Healthgrades has been honored  with the America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award™ in 2024. The distinction makes St. John’s one of the top 2% of more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide for its consistent, year-over-year superior clinical performance as measured by Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals.

St. John’s was also recognized as a Top 5 Hospital in California for Cardiac Care, Coronary Intervention and Pulmonary Care in 2024, and received several Specialty Excellence Awards that place the hospital in the Top 10% of the nation for Cranial Neurosurgery, Stroke, Pulmonary Services and Critical Care.

Among St. John’s additional honors include numerous five-star ratings, such as those for treating Sepsis, Pneumonia and Pacemaker Procedures. These achievements place St. John’s Regional Medical Center in the upper echelon of hospitals nationally for specialty care and reflect the organization’s commitment to consistently delivering the best care possible. Additionally, in 2023, St. John’s Regional Medical Center ranked #4 in the state for Cardiology, #4 in the state for Pulmonary Care, and #5 in the state for Coronary Intervention. The Leapfrog Group also gave an A rating to the hospital for its commitment to patient safety.

“We’re honored to be recognized by Healthgrades for the outstanding quality care we provide our community,” states Barry Wolfman, President & CEO of St. John's Hospitals. “These awards reflect our vision of providing safe, compassionate medical care with excellent clinical outcomes. It also highlights the ongoing investments in training and technology to assure those in Ventura County that they’ll receive the highest quality care right here, close to home.”

Healthgrades evaluates hospitals solely on clinical outcomes: risk-adjusted mortality and complications. By focusing on what matters most, patient outcomes, Healthgrades ratings provide critical feedback for both patients and hospitals. By offering easy access to objective performance measures, Healthgrades gives consumers the information they need to find a hospital that excels in providing the care they need. And, by shining a light on strengths and weaknesses, Healthgrades ratings help direct hospitals to opportunities for clinical improvement. The 2024 hospital assessment evaluated patient mortality and complication rates for 35 common conditions and procedures at approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide to identify the top performers.

The  2024 Healthgrades analysis revealed that the variation in performance among hospitals continues to widen, making it increasingly important to seek care at top-rated programs. According to Healthgrades, patients treated at one of the 2023 America’s 100 Best Hospitals have, on average, a 25.5% lower risk of dying than if they were treated at a hospital that did not receive the America’s 100 Best Hospitals award.

“Healthgrades congratulates St. John’s Regional Medical Center for being a national leader and demonstrating a deep commitment to providing high quality care to all patients,” said Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer and Head of Data Science at Healthgrades. “Your dedication, expertise, and tireless efforts have not only set you apart but have also positively impacted the lives of countless patients.”
