St. John's Regional Hosts Diabetes Empowerment Program

St. John's Regional Medical Center (SJRMC), a Dignity Health hospital is pleased to offer a free Diabetes Empowerment Education Program (DEEP) for individuals living with pre-diabetes and diabetes.

DEEP is a series of six free, two-hour classes tailored to provide community members with the tools to manage and live well with pre-diabetes and diabetes. The program, offered in English and Spanish will take place at SJRMC (1600 N. Rose Ave. in Oxnard), from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on the following Saturdays:

  • July 16
  • July 23
  • July 30 (blood tests and health screenings)
  • August 6
  • August 13
  • August 20
  • August 27

In these free classes, individuals will learn about:

  • Diabetes basics
  • Self-testing blood sugar
  • Meal planning
  • Stress management
  • Weight management
  • Increasing physical activity
  • Preventing complications
  • Improving relationship with health care team
  • Accessing community resources

DEEP is based on national diabetes care and diabetes self-management education recommendations and guidelines.
