Medical Student / Clerkship Rotations

Clerkships are typically scheduled in four-week blocks, beginning on a Monday and ending on a Friday, unless impacted by a holiday. Clerkships are not offered during the month of July.

Due to limited availability, early application is strongly encouraged.

Clerkship Structure

Most clerkships consist of:

  • Two weeks in our Family Practice Clinic
  • Two weeks of inpatient care

Application Process

Our institution participates in the Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) program. Students from schools not using VSLO may also apply via email.

For Non-VSLO Applicants

The following documents are required to schedule a rotation:

Needed for Approval:

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Personal Statement

Required After Approval:

  • Documentation of Immunization History
  • Proof of Malpractice Insurance (for both the student and their school)
  • Background Check (provided by your school)
  • Seven-panel Drug Screening
(Must be completed within the past 6 months and provided by your school)

Additionally, an Affiliation Agreement must be in place between your medical school and our institution. Our program may already have an agreement on file—please contact the Residency Coordinator to confirm the status for your school.

About the Residency Program:

Established in 1975, our residency is a community-based, university-affiliated program with a strong legacy of transforming healthcare delivery in rural Northern California. Please note: Completion of a clerkship is not required to be considered for a position in our Residency Program.
