Dignity Health Continues Focus On Elk Grove

A $35 million, 65,000-square-foot medical office building and outpatient surgery center to open September 1; application filed for entitlements for future growth.

Dignity Health, the fifth largest health system in the country, and operator of the local Mercy hospitals, Methodist Hospital, St. Joseph's Medical Center in Stockton, Woodland Healthcare and Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital in Grass Valley, announced it will open a new $35 million medical office building in Elk Grove in mid September.

Dignity Health Medical Plaza, a three story, 65,000-square-foot medical building, will include physician offices, an advanced imaging center, laboratory services and outpatient surgery center. The state-of-the-art facility will create more than 100 jobs.

In addition, Dignity Health has filed an application with the City of Elk Grove for entitlements to ultimately develop a full-service medical campus on its land near the corner of Elk Grove Boulevard and Bruceville Road. The project will likely be constructed in four additional phases over a 20+ year time frame.

Dignity Health purchased the 30 acres of land in 2008 as part of the Laguna Ridge Town Center. Dignity Health Medical Plaza completes phase one of the project.

"Dignity Health's plans for the future in this region are focused on serving the community," said Michael Taylor, senior vice president, operations for the Greater Sacramento-San Joaquin service area. "We recognize Elk Grove and the south area as a growing community and we look forward to providing access to high quality medical care for residents close to home."

The application for entitlements, filed earlier this year, is an important first step of the process for Dignity Health. Timing for the next phase of the project is under consideration and depends on growth and the demand for medical services in the area.
