Garrett A. South, MPH, CPXP

Director of Patient Experience

Garrett A. South joined Dignity Health California Hospital Medical Center in February 2021. Garrett has been instrumental in the experience and cultural strategy since joining the team in February 2021. Beginning his position as a Manager of Patient Experience as a team of 1 to now directing teams in service excellence, patient relations, interpreter services, volunteer services and the hospital gift shop. As the youngest member ever to sit on the CHMC senior team, he is committed to use his voice to continue advocating for our patients, staff, and for the greater LA community. Prior to joining CommonSpirit Health, Garrett was leading patient experience at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens.

Garrett grew up in Long Beach, CA and worked his whole career in various diverse urban cities throughout the USA- he feels especially connected to our community and understands the unique struggles that our patients walk with. It is through his personal values of empathy, compassion, and delivering excellence that he is able to drive our patient experience efforts. Garrett thinks it is very important to bring joy to the workplace and hopes to influence others around him to do the same when working so hard for our community.   

Garrett is a Certified Patient Experience Professional (CPXP) and holds a Master’s of Public Health from Emory University Rollins School of Public Health and a Bachelor’s of Science in Premedical Studies from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
