Director of Patient Experience
Garrett A. South is a dynamic healthcare executive with a track record of transformation and a passion for enhancing the patient experience. Since joining Dignity Health California Hospital Medical Center in February 2021, Garrett has been instrumental in shaping the experience and cultural strategy. Beginning as a Manager of Patient Experience, he's grown from leading a team of one to now directing multiple teams in service excellence, patient relations, interpreter services, volunteer services, and the hospital gift shop.
As the youngest member ever to sit on the CHMC senior team, Garrett is committed to using his voice to advocate for our patients, staff, and the greater LA community. In addition, his role as an elected official on the Downtown Neighborhood Council, he is able to serve as the ultimate advocate for our community, bridging the public and private sectors to ensure our neighborhood thrives.
A Certified Patient Experience Professional (CPXP), Garrett holds a Master’s of Public Health from Emory University Rollins School of Public Health and a Bachelor’s of Science in Premedical Studies from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. With a deep understanding of human empathy and a passion for delivering excellence, he leverages his public health background and national thought leadership to drive patient experience efforts.
