Family Medicine Residency
Our Mission is to provide comprehensive training to family physicians who care for our diverse, urban, medically underserved population and who will excel in academic and clinical careers.
From the Director
At California Hospital Medical Center, we are dedicated to the success of our residents and to educating future family medicine physicians, and we look forward to answering your questions and providing you information as you discover the rewards of service to others.
Resident Track Options
A resident's individual plans and interests, in conjunction with faculty advice, will determine the content and format of elective experiences.
In their second year, residents can choose from three optional tracks to enhance their educational experience:
Integrative Medicine Track
The Integrative Medicine Track is designed for residents in Family Medicine with a strong interest in Integrative Medicine.
The Hospitalist Track is designed for residents in Family Medicine with a strong interest in Hospitalist positions, or significant amounts of inpatient work in their future.
The OB track is designed for residents in Family Medicine with a strong interest in providing comprehensive obstetrical care, including gaining hospital obstetrical privileges or preparing for a Maternal-Child Health fellowship.”
Post-Graduate Training Years
First year residents enjoy the convenience of having all rotations at California Hospital Medical Center, excluding the Community Medicine rotation which is based at various locations in downtown Los Angeles. In the second and third years, away rotations and electives allow residents to experience a variety of settings - suburban to urban, small group to corporate, and a variety of patient communities. Core rotations include inpatient rotations in which the resident takes on senior supervising responsibilities as well as specialty-focused outpatient rotations in various clinic settings and private physician offices.
The Family Medicine Residency Program enjoys a strong affiliation with our community-based partners. On various rotations, residents spend time seeing patients at the Eisner Health Family Medical Center across the street from the hospital. Our community partners serve a largely indigent patient population, primarily Central American immigrants and help their own residents in models of health care for our inner-city communities.
Our community-partners include organizations like:
