California Hospital Names Joe Kim Chief Medical Officer

Dignity Health - California Hospital Medical Center announced the appointment of Joe Kim, MD, as chief medical officer.

Dr. Kim will provide management and strategic leadership functions to the hospital for effective planning, monitoring of patient care quality, and resource utilization across all departments and service line development with the goal of ensuring the delivery of the highest quality care.

“Dr. Kim’s experience will help enhance patient safety processes and quality programs. He is well respected among fellow physicians and has demonstrated his commitment to providing compassionate, patient-centered care,” said Margaret R. Peterson, PhD, California Hospital Medical Center president.

Dr. Kim is an experienced physician leader with over 10 years of progressive responsibilities in driving effective clinical change management and workflow transformation projects that raise clinical quality, improve patient experience, and provide value to patients.

Dr. Kim comes to California Hospital Medical Center after nearly 10 years at Cedars-Sinai Health System where he developed an impressive track record of improving clinical quality and operational efficiency throughout the system with strategies that supported both safety and financial objectives. He served a variety of roles such as the medical director of care management and medical director of quality improvement.

Dr. Kim obtained his undergraduate degree from the Johns Hopkins University, a Master of Public Health from Columbia University and his medical degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences.
