Dignity Health – Glendale Memorial Hospital Continues Health Care Legacy with Historic $2.5M Gift from The S. H. Ho Foundation

Glendale Memorial Hospital and Health Center (GMHHC) is pleased to announce a transformational $2.5M gift from The S. H. Ho Foundation. In honor of The S. H. Ho Foundation's generous contribution, Glendale Memorial Hospital's Laurel Plaza, located in the center of the campus, will be renamed the S. H. Ho Plaza.

“Glendale Memorial has been providing high quality, compassionate care to the San Fernando Valley for nearly a century,” said Julie Sprengel, senior vice president of operations, Dignity Health Southern California, and interim chief executive of Glendale Memorial. “We are truly grateful for The S. H. Ho Foundation and their unwavering confidence in our mission to serve the poor and disenfranchised. We truly value our shared belief that the homeless, sick, and suffering deserve access to health care delivered with humankindness.”

With this gift, the Glendale Memorial Health Foundation has raised a total of $4.1M in its three-year Humankindness in the Making journey, a campaign spanning from 2016 through 2018 with a goal to secure $5M for facility upgrades and expansion, including the relocating and remodeling of the hospital’s digestive health lab, and the Center for Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine. “These major projects will allow us to remain at the forefront of providing specialized services,” said Wayne Herron, vice president of philanthropy. “Patients will greatly benefit from access to leading-edge treatments.”

Since its formation in 1970, The S. H. Ho Foundation has donated to countless educational, medical, and scientific research organizations around the globe. “The ultimate legacy that my grandfather left behind centered on his dedication to serve those in need. Having always valued the significant role that a hospital plays in providing medical services to those who seek care and having come from humble beginnings himself, he carried an immense passion for helping people lead healthier lives. As a result, The S. H. Ho Foundation is bestowing this gift to Glendale Memorial Hospital with a promise that it will pave the path to improved quality of life and increased access to health care for our communities,” said David Ho, Governor of The S. H. Ho Foundation.
