Congratulations on the newest addition to your family and on your decision to breast–feed. It’s one of the best decisions you can make for the health of your new baby, now and throughout his or her lifetime.

Breastfeeding Center

To help get the two of you started the right way and make breast–feeding a positive experience, Dignity Health’s Community Hospital of San Bernardino’s caring staff is here to help. We invite you to visit our Health Education Center to meet with one of our specially–trained lactation consultants who can assist you with any questions, concerns or support you may need.

Our lactation staff is available:
Tuesdays, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Fridays, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Breast Pump Assistance Information

Based on the mother’s need, the Lactation consultant may give the mother a manual breast pump and send a referral to Ameda for an electric breast pump, for participating insurance companies. Call 909.806.1816 for more details.

Breastfeeding & the Newborn

This three-hour class is recommended if you are considering breast-feeding your baby. Included in the breast-feeding portion of this class is a discussion of the advantages of breast-feeding, anatomy of the breast and how breast milk is produced, proper positioning of the infant while nursing, preparation for breast-feeding, challenges and common concerns of breast-feeding if you go back to work.

The newborn portion of the class will give you the opportunity to practice diapering, bathing and dressing your newborn on life-like dolls. Instant safety and normal growth and development will also be discussed.

There is a $10 fee. Educational materials are available in Spanish
