Diabetes


The Health Education Center at Community Hospital of San Bernardino offers several classes and workshops for adults suffering from diabetes.

Pre-Diabetes

What does it mean to be Pre-Diabetic? We can help you understand this condition to help avoid getting diagnosed with Diabetes. Participants will learn different ways to keep their blood sugars levels in a healthy range. Classes are available in English and Spanish.

Diabetes Basics

This 1 hour class provides information for newly diagnosed individuals interested in Diabetes Education. By the end of class, participants will:

  • Understand Diabetes and its complications
  • Learn how to control Diabetes
  • Evaluate current diet/lifestyles
  • Identify necessary diet/lifestyles changes

Classes are available in English and Spanish.

Beyond Diabetes Basics

There are three educational diabetes workshops offered throughout the year for persons with diabetes as well as for their families.

The free 2-hour workshops includes topics on:

  • Nutrition (Carb Counting) and Physical Activity
  • Healthy personal care and avoidable diabetes complications
  • Understanding medications

Diabetes Self-Management (6-week) Program

The Diabetes Self-Management workshops are given 2½ hours once a week for six weeks. Topics include:

  • Techniques to deal with the symptoms of diabetes, fatigue, pain, hyper/hypoglycemia, stress, and emotional problems such as depression, anger, fear and frustration
  • Appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength and endurance
  • Healthy eating
  • Appropriate use of medication
  • Working more effectively with health care providers
