Research opportunities supported by faculty

During your emergency medicine residency with Dignity Health East Valley, you will cultivate your knowledge and expertise as a clinician through research and scholarship opportunities.

A program built to support quality research

Our emergency medicine program is lucky to have a dedicated group of research assistants in the ED, an IRB team specifically through East Valley to review local research projects, as well as ongoing research related to cardiology and trauma. Our faculty are dedicated to helping residents complete their required research and QI projects, and we will have an annual research day to highlight and celebrate these projects.

Ample Opportunities for Research

Dignity Health East Valley has more than 74 ongoing research trials. As a resident, you can join ongoing research and clinical trials or develop your own research supported by your mentor, advisor, and other faculty.

Our program supports residents to participate in a scholarly activity project, providing mentorship and guidance to learn the process of scholarly inquiry.  We have a monthly journal club and a robust evidence-based medicine curriculum to ensure proficiency in how to analyze research studies. During our annual "Shark Tank" event, residents will pitch their projects and obtain feedback from our research team. An on-site IRB allows for more direct exposure to the IRB process, as well as ease of project submission. Opportunities are available for residents to travel to present posters and abstracts at a regional or national conference of their choosing.
