Since welcoming our first class of residents in June of 2023, we continue our innovative approach to training up the next generation of Family Medicine graduate medical education.

Our exciting new program seeks to break the residency program mold. We are committed to developing physicians who will provide evidence-based care for their patients in the Family Medicine Practice Center and hospital settings. More importantly we teach you how to deliver care to your patient panel, not just those who have appointments that day. And we will move beyond our four walls working on annual projects to improve the health and well-being of our community.
Our goal is to train excellent family physicians as well as human beings who understand how to balance the demands of medicine with a healthy lifestyle. Dignity Health takes a holistic approach to preparing our residents for their future careers. We intrinsically understand that the best academic preparation and skill set development can only be optimized in clinicians who are people-focused. We never lose sight that each resident is an individual with a unique set of skills.
Because residency is a time of intense learning and on-the-job training, we provide a community of strong support for you. Our resident retreats and well-being initiatives will help you stay balanced as you progress through your residency, prepare for boards and formulate your personal career strategy.
The ideal candidates for our program are those who are teachable and committed to lifelong learning and to full spectrum Family Medicine. We prize candidates who recognize the special training program that has been developed here in Gilbert, AZ, and are willing to help us constantly improve our approach to resident training that is geared to practicing today and into the future. You will receive training in the mechanics of great leadership. Our carefully selected faculty members are known for their work in developing successful physicians, leaders and teams. In addition to your faculty advisor, you will choose a faculty mentor who will work with you over the course of your residency.
As a resident, you are assured that your opportunities to DO match your opportunities to learn. Along the way, your input, ideas, and talents will be heard frequently and promptly. Your professional growth is an integral part of the success of our program.
Our innovative training takes place in state-of-the-art clinic and hospital settings – including a brand new Family Medicine Residency Practice Center and the Women’s and Children’s Pavilion, which is a collaboration between Dignity Health and Phoenix Children’s on the campus of Mercy Gilbert Medical Center. We can’t wait to show you around our beautiful facilities and our patients can’t wait to meet YOU.
Chandler Regional Medical Center is a 429-bed, Level 1 Trauma Center which includes a variety of health care services and a newly added Tower D. Mercy Gilbert Medical Center is a 197-bed hospital which opened in 2006 and is expanding with the development of the Women’s and Children’s Pavilion – a joint project between Mercy Gilbert and Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

Our geography offers a multitude of outdoor activities including hiking, swimming and beautiful destinations that can be explored year-round. The lakes near Gilbert offer great water skiing with mountains and and various snow / winter activities being only a short drive away. Indoor attractions include thriving arts and culture, dining, entertainment and more here in the East Valley and only 30 minutes away in Phoenix and Scottsdale. The East Valley offers great communities to live in and neighbors to get to know.
