Rotations that ready residents for success.

Simply put, the new Family Medicine residency program at Dignity Health is like no other. Our unique approach to rotations reflects the characteristics we sought for the program from the start: rewarding, effective, sustainable, and flexible.

Encouraging feeling fulfilled and refreshed

The fatigue factor is real, and impacts your well-being as well as your care delivery. We want your residency experience to be distinctively rewarding. We “keep it fresh.”

Your rotations will be broken into two-week mini block format (see below) to minimize fatigue and repetition. We believe that our two week mini-blocks, coupled with our robust team approach, creates an exhilarating atmosphere that will be effective, fun and sustainable.

Maximizing your time for optimal learning and balance

Your schedule will be designed creatively to provide you the best opportunities for “learning while doing.” Our attention to details – like structuring our didactics during Family Medicine blocks to assure other rotations are not interrupted – are what set us apart.

Rotations foster faculty engagement and connections

Residents will also receive instruction on their inpatient and specialty rotations from attendings who love to teach.

  • You will receive ongoing "how to" guidance from faculty who will ensure your experience is “hands on.”
  • Once you have demonstrated competency per program protocols you will be “signed off” to practice independently, with faculty always available to support and guide you.

Listening to you – your voice is heard

Critical thinking, clinical discernment, and speaking up whenever necessary are key components to physician leadership. As such, you will be encouraged to ask questions that sharpen the thinking of everyone around you.

As a resident, you will have the opportunity to evaluate every block rotation you complete, as well as the attending physicians with whom you work closely.

  • These evaluations will be aggregated and shared in order to promote continuous improvement while maintaining anonymity for our residents.
  • An annual evaluation of the program will enable our Program Evaluation Committee (PEC) to develop the program improvement plan.
  • At program maturity, we will include a second-year and third-year resident on the PEC, along with core faculty members.
