Welcome to Morehouse School of Medicine where we are leading the creation and advancement of health equity.

The Graduate Medical Education (GME) of the Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) has graduated over 1000 Residents and Fellows since inception in 1981. The Morehouse School of Medicine Dominican Hospital Family Medicine Program is the twelfth ACGME accredited program sponsored by Morehouse School of Medicine and the first new program under the partnership between the Morehouse School of Medicine and the CommonSpirit Health System.

We are excited to launch the Morehouse School of Medicine Dominican Family Medicine Residency Program in beautiful Santa Cruz, California. The residency program is expected to have a positive impact in the health and well-being of the Santa Cruz community and beyond. Training residents in Family Medicine will no doubt increase the number of primary care providers in the area. We are working collaboratively with the community and our affiliates to ensure a successful onboarding on our initial class of residents in July 2024.

Please join us in our mission as we aim at the following:

  • Improve the health and well-being of individuals and communities
  • Increase and diversify the health professional and scientific workforce
  • Address the primary care needs of our communities through programs in education, patient care and research

The MSM GME believes that  promoting patient safety and  enhancing the quality of patient care is essential to prepare residents to provide the highest level of clinical care with continuous focus on safety, individual needs and humanity of their patients. It is the right of the patient to be cared for by residents who are adequately supervised; who possess requisite knowledge, skills and abilities; who understand the limits of their knowledge and experience; and who seek  assistance as required to provide safe and optimal patient care.

The well-being of and learning environment of our residents are of highest priority - we provide the resources, mentorship, atmosphere and support necessary for a conducive learning environment. It is our aim to train and nurture the future leaders in healthcare in the most optimal environment.
