SAN FRANCISCO, CA (October 10, 2019) – Dignity Health’s San Francisco hospitals, Saint Francis Memorial Hospital and St. Mary’s Medical Center, together provided more than $67 million in community benefit programs in fiscal year 2019 (FY19).

Serving San Franciscans for more than 100 years, the hospitals offer a comprehensive approach to improve community health, including financial assistance for those unable to afford medical necessary care, a range of prevention and health improvement programs conducted by the hospital alongside community partners, and investments in efforts that address the social determinants of health.

Saint Francis and St. Mary’s offer financial assistance for medically necessary hospital services to patients who meet certain criteria. More information about Dignity Health’s Financial Assistance Policy, including who is eligible to receive assistance, can be found online on the Saint Francis and St. Mary’s websites.

In FY19, St. Mary’s Medical Center provided $34,115,846 in patient financial assistance, unreimbursed costs of Medicaid, community health improvement services, and other community benefits. Similarly, Saint Francis Memorial Hospital provided $33,753,017 in patient financial assistance, unreimbursed costs of Medicaid, community health improvement services and other community benefits, in FY19.

Additionally, Saint Francis supports the Tenderloin Health Improvement Partnership, a multi-sector, collective impact initiative that provides a framework to address health equity and improve neighborhood health outcomes in the Tenderloin.
