Lymphedema is a chronic condition causing abnormal swelling in the body, most commonly in the arms or legs. It is usually caused by the removal of or damage to lymph nodes as a part of cancer treatment. Lymphedema results from a blockage in the lymphatic system that prevents lymph fluid from draining properly. Unmanaged lymphedema can result in progressive swelling, pain, loss of range of motion, and decreased limb function. With help from our specially-skilled therapists, lymphedema can be managed.
