Answers To Commonly Asked Palliative Care Questions 


When is the right time for palliative care?
Palliative care helps individuals through all stages of illness. It is best introduced early in care and provided at the same time as curative treatments. 

Is palliative care the same as hospice care?
No. Hospice care is meant specifically for those approaching the last stages of life, while palliative care is appropriate for any stage of a serious illness. 

Is there an additional cost for palliative care?
No. Inpatient consultations are provided by Saint Francis staff at no additional cost to the patient or their family.

How can I request a palliative care consultation?
Please speak with your doctor for a referral or call the palliative care team directly at (415) 363-6856. We are available Monday through Friday. Weekend and evening palliative care support is offered through our Spiritual Care Department who can be reached at (415) 353-6343.
