Birth and Parenting Classes


Birth Center Tour

Having a baby is a special time, and Mercy Hospitals can help you get ready for the birth, whether it’s your first or your fifth. Attending a tour of our birth center will help you become familiar with the unit and have an opportunity to ask questions about the birthing process. We suggest registering for a tour early in pregnancy to allow time to learn about our hospital and attend other prenatal courses offered.

Baby Basics

This class will assist you in caring for your newborn, including bathing, diapering, feeding, and other newborn tasks. Also covers SIDS and car seats.

There is a $25 fee.

Preparing to Breastfeed

This one day course covers breastfeeding minutes after delivery. You will learn about the valuable nutrition for your baby and its properties, correct positioning and latch, how to avoid common problems and how to be successful with your breastfeeding experience.    

This class is strongly recommended and both partners are encouraged to attend.

There is a $30 fee per couple.

Childbirth Preparation

This one day class reviews stages of labor, breathing and relaxation techniques, pain relief options, and the Golden Hour. Classes are offered twice monthly (One Monday evening and Sunday afternoon per month—please call 661.663.6067 for upcoming dates and to register.)

There is a $65 fee for mom and partner.

Mom-to-Mom New Mothers’ Group

Meet other moms and babies up to 18 months old. This is the time to share your joys and frustrations of being a new mother. Share knowledge and ask questions about your baby's development. Breastfeeding assistance available.

There is no fee and preregistration is not required.

Group meets Friday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30 am.
