Our Program


The St. Joseph’s Hospital Psychiatry training program will welcome its’ first class of seven residents in summer 2021.  St. Joseph’s is a busy urban hospital in Stockton, CA. The hospital has over 300 beds, a busy ICU, and hosts delivery of over 3,000 babies each year. Psychiatry residents’ primary inpatient experience will be at the St. Joseph’s Hospital Behavioral Health Center serving the diverse patient population that offers a full continuum of mental health services. The program provides an excellent and diverse training environment in the heart of California’s Central Valley. 

The St. Joseph’s Psychiatry Residency Program is part of a multi-year effort to expand graduate medical education at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine programs started in 2018, Internal Medicine and Transitional year in 2020. One of the hallmarks of the St. Joseph’s Psychiatry Residency Program is collaboration with California Department of State Hospitals – Napa which will provide a unique learning opportunity for residents, research projects, and benefits to patient care.

Residents will find a welcoming and caring family of faculty and staff at St. Joseph’s Medical Center. The unique combination of busy urban hospital surrounded by a relatively rural and under-served community yields excellent patient care experiences.
