Newborn girl arrives as a New Year's Day surprise to Grover Beach couple

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA – January 1, 2018 – Olivia Faith Rivera arrived on a special day, in time to be the first baby born in San Luis Obispo County in 2018 at the Stollmeyer Family Birthing Center at French Hospital Medical Center (FHMC). Coming into the world at 8:11a.m.on New Year’s Day, she weighed six pounds, eleven ounces, and measured 19” in length.

The beautiful newborn girl’s proud parents, mother Leanne Rivera and father Jesus Rivera, are overjoyed about their New Year’s arrival, as well as doting nine-year-old Zach Lyons, who is eagerly stepping into his new role as big brother. Olivia is the first child for the elated couple, and the second for Leanne. Mom and baby are healthy and doing well and are celebrating the baby’s arrival with waves of well-wishers.

“This wasn’t planned,” exclaims new mom Leanne. “We were shocked and joked about her being the first baby of the New Year. We are just very happy that she is healthy and she’s here.”

To celebrate and welcome this bundle of joy, FHMC staff presented mom, dad, and baby with a beautiful gift basket filled with goodies, and essentials.
