This evidence-based designation considers patient satisfaction and clinical excellence, among other factors.

SANTA MARIA, CA – January 25, 2018 – Dignity Health’s Weight Loss Surgery Institute of the Central Coast (WLSICC) is pleased to announce it has received the 2018 Women’s Choice Award® as America’s Best Hospitals for Bariatric Surgery.

This evidence-based designation is the only award that identifies the countries best health care institutions based on robust criteria that consider female patient satisfaction, clinical excellence, and what women say they want from a hospital. The America’s Best Hospitals for Bariatric Surgery scoring process is unique in that it is the only national list that is evidence-based and focuses on female patient satisfaction.

David Maccabee, MD, Medical Director for the WLSICC, says this most recent accolade highlights the WLCICC’s commitment to helping people live happier, healthier lives. “As the Central Coast’s only comprehensive surgical weight loss program, it is imperative that we provide not only excellent quality care, but also that we ensure the best experience possible for all of our patients, and we are honored to be recognized with this prestigious award, said Maccabee.”

Hospitals such as Dignity Health Central Coast that earn the 2018 America’s Best Hospitals for Bariatric Surgery Award have met the high standards of The American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) through the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). In addition, the hospitals received a patient recommendation rating above the national average on the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

The WLSICC program offers all of the key components that contribute to weight loss success:

  • Free seminars and patient education
  • Extensive physical and psychological assessments and support
  • Post-operative visits, calls, lab tests, and monitoring
  • Nutritional and lifestyle modification counseling
  • Customized fitness program and access to the Health and Wellness Center
  • Personal assistance with navigating insurance coverage
  • Bilingual language assistance (English/Spanish)

We believe that involving the families of our patients is also a critical factor in achieving long term weight loss. We encourage their participation in the educational portions of our program so they can support their loved one on this journey.
