SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA – February 1, 2018 – French Hospital Medical Center (FHMC) is pleased to announce the unveiling of an inspiring new art installation in the hospital’s healing garden. The piece, titled ‘Wings of Grace,’ is comprised of copper and stainless steel, and was created by Sean Beauchamp and Eric Malicoat of Southpaw Studios specifically for FHMC’s 2017 Celebration of Caring Gala fundraising event held in August.
During the gala’s live auction, 23 generous donors collaborated to sponsor the artwork and have the wings permanently placed into the healing garden for patients and guests to enjoy. The impressive ‘Wings of Grace’ can be viewed in its permanent home in the main breezeway entrance of the hospital.
The Celebration of Caring Gala is the FHMC Foundation’s annual black tie event which raised more than $373,000 in 2017. Since 2006, the Gala has raised more than $2,500,000 to support FHMC patient programs and services.
“Wings of Grace” joins two other art pieces of life-size angel wings at FHMC. They are located in the Copeland Health Education Pavilion and the Stollmeyer Family Birthing Center. Each unique piece was created by a different artist and commemorates the healing impact of art. These installations were also created to be the perfect backdrop for a photo; celebrating the opportunity we all have to be an angel.
