French is among only six hospitals in the California to make the 2019 list

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA – October 7, 2019 –  French Hospital Medical Center (FHMC) is pleased to announce that it has been included in the 2019 edition of the Becker's Hospital Review list, and again named one of the "100 Great Community Hospitals" in the United States. This is the third time French Hospital has received this prestigious award and the hospital is one of only six recipients in California honored. FHMC also received this award in 2015 and 2017.

Becker's Hospital Review is a monthly publication offering up-to-date business and legal news and analysis relating to hospitals and health systems. The Becker's Hospital Review editorial team selected hospitals for inclusion based on various rankings and awards. Becker’s is an independent reviewer of data, and a hospital cannot pay for inclusion on the Top 100 list.

“French Hospital Medical Center continues its pledge to remain at the forefront of health care, and this includes not only our advanced technologies and top physicians, but patient safety and quality,” says Alan Iftiniuk, President and CEO, French Hospital Medical Center. “This significant recognition is yet another validation of the unwavering commitment we have made to our community to provide the highest levels of care.”

French Hospital continues to redefine its campus, and is preparing to transform the facility into the hospital of the future, far exceeding the needs of the growing community through advanced technologies, highly skilled personnel, and a new state-of-the art facility.

Along with this substantial undertaking, expansion is nearly complete on the new Emergency Department, to be named the Oppenheimer Family Center for Emergency Medicine. This essential project will house the most advanced emergency services center in the San Luis Obispo County and is slated to open later this year.

The hospitals featured on the 100 Top Community Hospitals list includes independent community hospitals as well as facilities affiliated with large health systems. Some hospitals serve expansive rural geographies, while others care for small communities outside of large cities. Many of the hospitals have been recognized for their clinical quality, operational excellence, and economic influence on the surrounding areas. For the purposes of this list, Becker's defines a community hospital as a facility with no more than 550 beds. Becker's Hospital Review has published a version of this every year since 2011.
