French Hospital Announces Opening of On-Campus Perinatal Center
The San Luis Obispo Perinatal Center includes a team of experienced Central Coast Maternal-Fetal Medicine physicians and team members that provide high quality care using state-of-the-art technology for women with regular and high-risk pregnancies throughout
San Luis Obispo County.
Located on the campus of French Hospital Medical Center, the San Luis Obispo Perinatal Center is part of its creation of new, comprehensive maternity services in order to meet growing health care needs within the Central Coast community. In addition to the hospital’s Stollmeyer Family Birthing Center, the San Luis Obispo Perinatal Center focuses on maternal-fetal medicine, which is the specialization in caring for women with high-risk pregnancies. Services involved in high-risk pregnancy care include, but are not limited to, a variety of routine and high risk maternal-fetal assessments, advanced invasive and non-invasive genetic testing, antepartum testing, diabetes or gestational diabetes program, and high blood pressure programs.
Our team of Maternal–Fetal Medicine doctors includes Laurence Shields, M.D., Daniele Feldman, M.D., and Stephanie Lin, M.D. All three physicians have board certification and specialize in OB/GYN and Maternal–Fetal Medicine. Dr. Shields, with over 20 years of experience including 10 years practicing on the Central Coast, has been nationally recognized for his innovative research and work related to patient safety in obstetrics.
“The addition of our new perinatal center is part of our Family Birthing Center expansion,” states Alan Iftiniuk, President and CEO of FHMC. “Currently, our expansion scheduled for completion at the end of 2016 includes new private birthing rooms, a new family waiting area, an en-suite operating room, a level II nursery, and an upgraded maternity nursing station. Now, this additional service will provide specialty care for women with high-risk, un-routine pregnancies alongside our established maternity and OB/GYN services.”
