The Pharmacy General Practice Residency at Mercy Medical Center Redding is a 12-month experiential learning process designed to give the resident comprehensive training in providing pharmaceutical care in an integrated health system.

The Residency Program

The Residency in Pharmacy Practice at Mercy Medical Center Redding is a twelve-month experiential learning process designed to give the resident comprehensive training in providing pharmaceutical care in an integrated health system. Mercy Medical Center provides a learning experience that blends core rotations with longitudinal rotations. Six-week core rotations provide the resident a learning experience that integrates multiple services within a single core. By blending the core rotation experience with a longitudinal rotation, this structure offers a realistic learning opportunity that teaches time management skills.

Redding, California

Located 160 miles North of Sacramento, CA and 150 miles South of Medford, OR; Redding has a population of approximately 90,000. Redding is located on the Sacramento River and near Mt. Shasta and Lassen Volcanic National Park, numerous outdoor activities abound. The city also serves as the medical hub offar northern California and serves a greater population of 300,000.

Pharmacy Department

The pharmacy services of Mercy Medical Center Redding are part of an integrated health system that offers comprehensive patient focused pharmaceutical care. The system consists of a large central pharmacy and decentralized pharmacists in key areas of the Medical Center. Under the direction of the medical staff, the pharmacists are active in a number of pharmacist-managed drug protocols, including: TPN, pharmacokinetics, warfarin, heparin, renal dosing, IV-to-PO conversions, and antimicrobial surveillance. Ambulatory Care services are largely provided by our 2 oncology infusion centers. Mercy Medical Center Redding Pharmacy Department has adopted the philosophies of Continuous Qµality Improvement and Pharmaceutical Care in all our settings.

About Mercy Redding

Mercy Medical center is a 267-bed Level II Trauma, acute care hospital that, combined with 1 critical access hospital in Mount Shasta and a community hospital in Red Bluff, forms the Dignity Health North State region. We serve a culturally diverse patient population. Our medical center is community based and is a local center for cardiac procedures, regional cancer services, and contains a Level Ill NICU. We are affiliated with University of the Pacific, Simpson University, and the University of California - Davis and serve as a training site for pharmacy IPPE/ APPE student, nursing students, and a family medicine residency.
