Meet Our Program Director

Dr. Armaity Austin

Thank you for your interest in the California Hospital Medical Center-Family Medicine Residency Program. We are committed to the success of our residents by providing robust training in full spectrum family medicine in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles.

Our Mission is to provide comprehensive training to family physicians who care for our diverse, urban, medically underserved brothers and sisters who are poor and disenfranchised by partnering with others in the community to improve patient care and community service. We provide the highest standard of medical education and continuous professional development opportunities, which allow future family medicine physicians to excel in academic and clinical careers. We dedicate our resources in training excellent clinicians who deliver compassionate, high quality, and affordable health services. Our family medicine residency program embraces the values of dignity, collaboration, justice, stewardship and excellence.

Our family medicine residency is the solo residency program at CHMC, sponsored by Dignity Health. We are a 3-year residency program, accepting 8 residents per year. Our residents reflect the diversity of our community and are culturally competent. We have a diverse faculty who’ve had valued experiences in working with underserved populations.

In the ambulatory care setting, the Eisner Family Medicine Residency Center is a Federally Qualified Healthcare Center (FQHC) where you’ll deliver care from newborns to geriatric age groups. We also have a dedicated staff at the clinic and hospital to enhance the caring for our patients. CHMC is the primary site for all clinical rotations in obstetrics, pediatrics, In-patient family medicine, ER, and in ICU. Additional training opportunities are available at our Trauma Center and Simulation Lab. Point of Care Ultra Sound (POCUS) rotation is offered in our Simulation Lab. Residency tracks are offered in Integrative Medicine, Obstetrics , and currently in development is a Hospitalist track. The Hope Street Family Center is our community partner where residents engage in community education outreach.

During this unusual time of the pandemic, our residents are also seeing some of their clinic patients “virtually” via Telehealth visits.

Our residents and faculty are truly looking forward to getting to know you and learning about your journey leading to postgraduate training at our Family Medicine residency Program.
