Patients

St. Mary Medical Center in Long Beach is dedicated to providing patient and family centered care. As such, we partner with each individual patient to satisfy their needs and preferences.

Our values. Our difference.

We know that a hospital stay can sometimes be frightening or unsettling, so our goal is to make you feel at home here. Every aspect of our facility was designed with patients in mind—from your private room to the friendly and caring staff who will take care of you during your stay.  And our commitment to our patients, and their families, is guided by our values and our pledge to treat everyone with dignity, compassion and respect.

Southern California quality

At Dignity Health, we want to be the safest place possible for our patients and for our caregivers. To increase our safety we need to do more than just create new policies and procedures, we need to strengthen our culture of safety, so that doing the safe thing is always top of mind.

The 18 Dignity Health Hospitals across the Southern California Division are on the journey to becoming Highly Reliability Organizations (HRO) committed to improve safety by first understanding why people make errors and then training our teams with tools that help people reduce the everyday mistakes that we all make.  When these tools are used all the time, hospitals become reliably safe.

St. Mary Medical Center is one of only 418 healthcare providers nationwide to earn the coveted Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRC) “Leader in LGBTQ Healthcare Equality” designation and the only facility in the greater Long Beach area. For the first time, Healthcare Equality Index (HEI) participants were awarded numerical scores in four areas; LGBTQ patient-centered care, LGBTQ patient services and support, fully-inclusive employee benefits and policies, and LGBTQ patient and community engagement. St. Mary Medical Center received the maximum score in each section, for a total score of 100, earning the coveted status.

How was your care?

We take our commitment to patient quality and service seriously, and we constantly invite feedback on everyone’s experience with St. Mary Medical Center.  To determine where improvements are needed, we take part in the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Health Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey. The HCAHPS survey measures your satisfaction with the quality of your care. It is designed to be a standardized tool for measuring and reporting satisfaction across all hospitals in the U.S.

We also invite you to share your experience with your patient care team.  We want to make your stay at St. Mary Medical Center as pleasant as possible. So if you have any questions or concerns, please let a team member know how they can assist you.
