Simulation Curriculum
Gynecology:
Our gynecology simulation curriculum integrates a comprehensive block and longitudinal approach using the Essentials in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (EMIGS) program. Developed by leading experts, EMIGS offers a standardized framework for education and assessment in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery (MIGS). This program is endorsed by the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology (ABOG) as an alternative to the Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS) examination.
The curriculum is structured around three core components:
- EMIGS Didactics: A 12-module series that covers the fundamentals of endoscopic surgery.
- EMIGS Cognitive: Enhancing understanding of cognitive principles relevant to gynecologic procedures.
- EMIGS Manual Skills: Focusing on hands-on techniques and practical skills.
Our dedicated block will employ these modules to provide a thorough grounding in both technical and cognitive aspects of gynecologic surgery, ensuring a robust educational experience.
Obstetrics:
In our obstetrics simulation curriculum, we utilize both low-fidelity and high-fidelity models to simulate obstetric emergencies effectively. Our state-of-the-art simulation center, combined with dedicated time during Friday conferences, allows for hands-on practice with advanced simulation-trained faculty.
Key features include:
- Advanced Life Support for Simulation (ALSO): Training that equips residents with essential skills to manage obstetric emergencies proficiently.
- Simulation Models: Varied fidelity models designed to mimic real-life scenarios, enhancing practical learning.
This approach ensures that our residents are well-prepared to handle critical obstetric situations with confidence and competence.
