STEMI Designation

When a heart attack happen, seconds matter. French Hospital Medical Center is the only facility in San Luis Obispo County equipped and trained to treat an ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) or acute heart attack.

Acute Heart Attack And Immediate Care

A STEMI heart attack is caused by sudden, total blockage of a coronary artery. It can be deadly. It’s why seconds matter in getting you or a loved one to a hospital that is STEMI designated. A hospital like French.

A STEMI designation means that we have the training and equipment to treat you within 90 minutes, the time designated by the American College of Cardiology as necessary to achieve a hoped for good outcome.

French Hospital:

  • Exceeds the national standard for the 90 minute door-to-balloon treatment time
  • Maintains an advanced communication system to notify needed personnel while you’re in transport

Through French Hospital’s Emergency Department and our Chest Pain Center, we can treat and then transport patients to our cardiac catheterization laboratory for potentially life-saving, artery opening procedures.
