Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is a specialized treatment for severe aortic valve stenosis. If you aren’t a candidate for traditional open heart surgery, Dignity Health Central Coast’s recognized leaders in heart care can perform this cardiovascular treatment with personal care.
Generally, aortic valve replacement surgery is through an open chest. TAVR is minimally invasive and improves your blood flow out of your heart and decreases fainting, heart failure, and chest pain.

Dignity Health Central Coast specializes in helping you improve your cardiac health. If you decide to undergo TAVR, the procedure will take place at one of our hospitals:
While you’re under general anesthesia, a team of heart care specialists, possibly including cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, and radiologists, will access your heart using a catheter placed in an incision in a major artery. This thin device will place the new aortic valve over your diseased valve.
After your TAVR procedure, your stay in one of our hospitals should only last three to five days. TAVR is a minimally invasive surgery, so recovery is quicker than the traditional open chest valve replacement.
Your team of Dignity Health Central Coast heart care specialists will prepare you for a healing environment at home. You will secure the necessary medications and instructions for your well-being and recovery.
Our experts want you to live life to the fullest — without cardiovascular disease. Talk to your doctor about how to improve your heart health and whether a cardiovascular treatment like TAVR is right for you.
