Pregnancy, Childbirth and Parenting Classes


We offer a number of classes to help women and their partners prepare to love and care for their newborn child. Expanding your family is an exciting and sometimes challenging time. We encourage you to participate in all that meet your needs. 

Baby & Me - New Parents' Support Group

New Parents’ Support Groups can help new moms and dads learn about themselves, their new roles and coping with the changes and challenges new parents experience. Dignity Health also offers a number of lactation support groups throughout the region. Our support groups are also an opportunity to connect with other parents in your area. All new parents are welcome. There is no charge to participate.

As part of Dignity Health Women’s Services' commitment to family-centered maternity care, we offer a variety of classes taught by experienced instructors to help pregnant women, and their partners, prepare for childbirth and caring for your new infant. Classes we offer include: Baby Basics (Baby Care), Great Expectations (Childbirth Preparation) Moveable Feast (Breastfeeding) & Stork Tours.

Preparing For Childbirth at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital

Learn everything you need to know to make your little one’s arrival a stress-free, joyous occasion! Classes are guided by our Sierra Nevada Family Birth Center nurses. Tour the Birth Center, and discuss what to expect during your stay with us. Have all your questions answered by our expert staff!

Second Thursday of each month from 7 to 9 p.m.

Woodland: Childbirth Preparation (4 Session Series)

Childbirth preparation will provide you with an understanding of labor and birth, the signs and stages of labor, comfort measures, pain management and interventions, postpartum care and breastfeeding. Childbirth preparation classes are taught by certified instructors. The classes are intended to be taken during the last trimester of your pregnancy. There is no charge for your support person.

Woodland: Childbirth Preparation (Weekend Series)

Childbirth preparation will provide you with an understanding of labor and birth, the signs and stages of labor, comfort measures, pain management and interventions, postpartum care and breastfeeding. Childbirth preparation classes are taught by certified instructors. The classes are intended to be taken during the seventh or eighth month of pregnancy. There is no charge for your support person.

Woodland: Nurturing Your Newborn

The morning portion of this class will cover newborn appearance and behavior, daily care, signs of illness, comfort techniques, and safety issues. The afternoon segment will include breastfeeding benefits and techniques, family considerations, common difficulties and concerns. Partners are encouraged to participate. There is no charge for your support person/partner.
