According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (cdc.gov/std), dozens of STIs can be spread through sexual contact, including chlamydia, gonorrhea, hepatitis, and syphilis. While some are curable, other STIs like herpes, HIV and HPV are not. Testing is simple, and helps with STI diagnosis, treatment and support. A sexual health status update is an easy step to minimize STI risk. Here’s how to get started.
Visit the CARE Clinic Monday through Friday, 8 am to 4:30 pm. For after-hours testing concerns, go to the emergency room. From hello to farewell, you are treated with care and kindness, and your testing experience remains private and confidential. STI tests are as easy as throat swabs, urine tests or even a finger stick rapid HIV test. HIV and STI testing is recommended for sexually active individuals, whether the last test was three to six months ago, a year, or longer.
CARE is Long Beach’s largest HIV-specialty clinic that has been serving the area since 1986. CARE is a non-profit hospital-based program that is directly funded by federal, state and county grants along with private donations. CARE provides culturally-competent and high-quality care to all people impacted by HIV and associated chronic illnesses. We're moving in August of 2023. Our beautiful new location will still be on the St. Mary Medical Center campus but all of our services will be offered in one convenient setting that has been designed with your comfort and privacy in mind.
