CommonSpirit Health Appoints Anthony Houston President of its Arizona Market

PHOENIX (May 1, 2024) - CommonSpirit Health, the parent organization of Dignity Health, has named Anthony Houston, EdD, FACHE, president of its Arizona market. The organization's Arizona market comprises eight acute care hospitals, a medical group, graduate medical education programs, imaging centers, specialty hospitals, urgent cares, freestanding emergency departments, insurance providers, an accountable care organization and other clinical partnerships. Houston will begin his duties this summer. 

“With more than 25 years of leadership experience, Anthony is a team-oriented executive who has a strong background in hospital and health system operations, strategy, and financial management,” says Tim Bricker, President and CEO of CommonSpirit Health’s Central Region. “Tony is extremely committed to CommonSpirit’s mission and values. A known collaborator, he will be a great addition to our exceptional Arizona team.”

Houston will join the Arizona market from CommonSpirit Health CHI Saint Joseph Health in Lexington, Ky., where he currently serves as market president. Prior to joining CHI Saint Joseph Health, Houston served as president and market COO for CommonSpirit Health CHI Memorial in Chattanooga, Tenn., overseeing three hospitals in the greater Chattanooga area. He was also president of CHI St. Vincent in Hot Springs, Ark. and executive vice president/chief operating officer of SSM St. Mary’s in Jefferson City, Mo.

Houston holds a Doctor of Education from Creighton University, a Master of Health Services Administration from Xavier University, and a Bachelor of Science in biology from the University of Cincinnati. He serves on a wide range of boards, including the Morehouse School of Medicine (Doctor of Health Administration program), Kentucky Hospital Association, Kentucky Chamber of Commerce and American Heart Association.
