Individualized research and scholarship with faculty backing.

During your internal medicine residency with Dignity Health East Valley, you will cultivate your knowledge and expertise as a clinician through research and scholarship opportunities. Dignity Health East Valley has more than 74 ongoing research trials. Residents can join ongoing research clinical trials or develop your own research supported by your mentor, advisor and other faculty.

Your scholarly activity work will be supported by your mentor, advisor, and other faculty. Our program also supports all residents to become involved in the American College of Physicians and present your research/scholarly posters at state and national meetings.

Dedicated time for research

During your PGY-1 year, residents will learn and advance your research skills through self-study modules during your core conference series and through connections to the Dignity Health medical librarian during morning reports. During your PGY-2 and PGY-3 years, residents have dedicated weekly time during ambulatory blocks to work on a research scholarly project of your choosing while also gaining knowledge and skills in Quality Improvement (QI). This will culminate in each resident presenting a special QI / Research Grant Rounds in PGY-3 year.

For those who want even more dedicated time in research, PGY-2 and PGY-3 selective blocks can be done with selected faculty that are expected to lead to publication of scholarly activity.
