Kipling Sharpe, MD
Medical Director
Total Joint Replacement Program
 
Dr. Sharpe grew up in Southern California where he attended the University of California at Irvine before transferring to Westmont College in Santa Barbara where he earned a bachelor's degree in economics and business. He then attended the University of Southern California (USC) School of Medicine before completing a residency in orthopedic surgery at Los Angeles County/USC Medical Center. Following his residency, Dr. Sharpe completed fellowship training in Adult Reconstruction – Joint Replacement.
 
Dr. Sharpe specializes in joint reconstruction and revisions of failed joints as well as small incision joint replacement. He is also a consultant for a joint implant manufacturer and travels around the country teaching other surgeons. Dr. Sharpe has been serving as an orthopedic consultant for the Chicago Cubs for more than 10 years, where he continues to learn about treating athletes and keeping them "in the game." He is also a team physician for the Mesa Cubs and Mesa Aquatics.
 
He is involved in the local community having served on the board of the Mesa Symphony and a local bank and is actively involved in Scouting. His active lifestyle includes road cycling, swimming, waterskiing and snow skiing. Dr. Sharpe also enjoys vicarious participation in his children's many sports including swimming, wrestling, diving, soccer, gymnastics, baseball, dance and basketball.


 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Joan Bolzan, RN, BSN, MSL
Coordinator
Orthopedics Program

Working as an RN, BSN most of her professional years, Joan has specialized in emergency, school and perioperative nursing in Illinois and Arizona. After earning her master’s degree in business leadership in 2006, she transitioned into the business world as a Director of Marketing and Charter Sales for a private jet aviation business. Wanting to get back to her love of healthcare, she became the Executive Director Foundation of a grassroots hospice foundation and enjoyed bringing growth and charitable funding for those in their end of life stage. She then transitioned back into the hospital setting as a powerful and proven marketing and clinical leader as a clinical liaison.
 
In her current role as Orthopedic Program Coordinator, Joan delights in the opportunity to bring her many years as an RN, competent and qualified practitioner who has developed a real passion of and a clear understanding of the needs of patients and their families as well as physicians, administration and hospital personnel in her combined career experiences and advanced education. She is also an inspirational professional speaker and New York Times Best Selling Author who has had many conversations with patients and their families as an RN, caregiver and author regarding the importance of dedication and a comprehensive team it takes to get any patient or loved one back to the highest level of strength and function after injury or illness. Kelly Van Dahm, MS, CCC-SLP
Manager
Rehabilitation Services

Kelly Van Dahm is the Manager of Rehabilitation Services at Mercy Gilbert Medical Center. She has over 20 years of experience working with medically complex patients of all ages in a variety of hospital systems. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Michigan, doing her clinical rotation at Michigan State University, and her Master’s of Science in Communication Disorders from Arizona State University. Kelly has published two clinical books, co-authored multiple clinical articles, been the primary investigator in clinical research and has been a featured speaker both locally and nationally.

Kelly has years of experience focusing on providing the best therapy practices for her patients. Having been in a leadership role for many years, her focus is on supporting the clinical providers and developing the programs that will further promote functional gains for patients. The Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Speech Pathologists in the Rehabilitation Department at Mercy Gilbert have a collective of many years of experience and expertise in orthopedic and neurologic diagnoses and are passionate about providing excellent therapy treatment.
In addition to her role as mom to 3 kids, Kelly enjoys traveling, hiking, volunteering in the east valley community and participating in mission projects.
