Is Natural Childbirth Right for You?
If you are seeking a childbirth experience that is compassionate, holistic, yet personalized, midwifery is for you. Meet our midwives, all are credentialed Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNM). Each takes pride in providing you with a personal touch, spending quality time with you through pregnancy, birth, postpartum and beyond.
St. Joseph’s is unique because we provide the comfort and control of a birthing center, as well as the peace of mind of knowing that traditional OB-GYN physicians are readily available, if needed. If you choose to deliver at our birthing suites, you can expect:
- A natural childbirth
- Active participation in deciding your birth plan, labor and delivery preferences
- Intermittent monitoring with freedom to walk, eat and drink while in labor
- No routine IV or blood work while in labor
- Suites with private showers
- Delayed cord clamping
- Options for comfort, pain management and relief beyond epidurals
- Trial of labor after caesarean (TOLAC)
- Prenatal classes covering breastfeeding, bonding and parenting
- Support to keep your baby with you to include skin-to-skin kangaroo care
- On-call nurse-midwife and an on-call physician
- Access to Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit staffed by expert neonatologists
Supportive Prenatal Care
Many women find both our individualized and group care options provide a great balance between traditional and natural childbirth. Our midwives specialize in:
- Listening to and caring for women in all stages of the lifespan
- Building supportive relationships, getting to know you and your baby’s needs
- Patient education, providing instruction in mother and infant care, nutrition, psychosocial and breastfeeding
- Keeping a watchful eye on your progress and serving as a trusted guide from pregnancy, delivery and all the way through postpartum
- Facilitating group prenatal care discussions where women share maternity care experiences and ideas with others, who are also on the natural childbirth journey
