Dr. Rebecca Small

Director of Medical Aesthetics Training Curriculum

Dr. Rebecca Small is a graduate of Cambridge University, England, and Harvard Medical School. During her time at Harvard Medical School, she was co-founder and leader of Students United for Faculty Diversity, a group aimed at promotion of women and minorities that established the first Dean for Diversity and Community Partnership. Her commitment to equity have been consistent themes in her career. Dr. Small is passionate about teaching and is an Associate  Clinical Professor at the University of California San Francisco, where she trains residents and medical students. Since 2008 she has been the Director of Medical Aesthetics Training at Natividad Medical Center, Family Medicine Residency. Recently, she was invited to join the faculty for the Moorehouse School of Medicine, Family Medicine Residency at Dominican Hospital, where she has been active medical staff member since 2003. 

Dr. Small has worked closely with the laser tattoo removal program for CA Youth Delinquency Prevention for the last 20 years. Additionally, she founded a non-profit to ensure the procedures she performs while training are donated to the underserved. Dr. Small serves as a mentor through UCSC Careers in Medicine for High School Students. She lectures nationally on topics such as dermatological conditions, aesthetic skin concerns, skin problems and skin disease. She has developed didactic and hands-on procedural training curricula for academic conferences and regularly teaches hands-on workshops. Dr. Small has published multiple articles and books such as Dermatologic and Cosmetic Procedures in Office Practice, as well as five procedural textbooks, including The Essential Guide to Primary Care Procedures. Dr. Small lives in Aptos and serves as the Medical Director for RSMD Medical Aesthetics in Santa Cruz, CA.
