Statement from Dignity Health on Discussions with UCSF Health

Posted in:

San Francisco, Calif. (July 14, 2023) – Dignity Health can confirm we have entered into discussions with UCSF Health to explore transferring ownership of our clinical presence in San Francisco, including St. Mary’s Medical Center, Saint Francis Memorial Hospital, and associated outpatient and urgent care clinics.

Like Dignity Health, UCSF Health has a strong legacy of serving the San Francisco community, and we are encouraged about the opportunity for our care sites to join a health system so closely aligned with our values. We believe UCSF Health is well positioned to serve the community's needs well into the future, and is the right partner to continue our legacy of caring for the underserved.

This decision was not made lightly. Our commitment to serve the City’s healthcare needs began with the Sisters of Mercy of America more than 150 years ago. We are honored to be the provider of choice for generations of San Franciscans.

While we are at the very beginning of this process and discussions with UCSF Health will continue for several months, we are committed to keeping our employees, physicians and the community informed. Most importantly, throughout the process our patients will continue to receive the same high-quality care they have come to expect.
