Curriculum Overview
Welcome to the Internal Medicine Residency Curriculum at our program. Below you'll find an overview of the structured educational experiences designed to support resident learning, clinical reasoning, and professional growth.
Morning Report takes place every Tuesday and Thursday morning. Attendance is mandatory for all internal medicine residents, medical students, and off-service residents on internal medicine teams. Sessions focus on diagnostic dilemmas, interesting inpatient cases, and cases in progress. Presenters are encouraged to engage the audience actively with questions throughout the session.
Every Wednesday afternoon, residents participate in structured didactic sessions. These sessions are in-person and mandatory for all internal medicine residents and medical students, except those on ICU, night float, vacation, or away rotations. Each block follows a consistent format, which includes MKSAP or ACP board prep,SIM Training, Yale Curriculum outpatient topics, Wellness-focused discussions, Journal Club, and Jeopardy sessions. We are working to develop a POCUS curriculum for our faculty and residents
Educational content is based on ABIM recommendations and in-training exam data. Sessions span key specialties such as cardiology, hematology/oncology, endocrinology, pulmonology, infectious disease, gastroenterology, nephrology, rheumatology, neurology, psychiatry, geriatrics, and others.
Journal Club is held regularly as part of the Noon Didactics series.
MKSAP/ACP Board Preparation
Board preparation sessions take place during the first three Wednesdays of each block. Sessions are focused on core topics like cardiology, nephrology, pulmonology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, and infectious disease.
Simulation training, including procedural simulations and rapid response team (RRT) simulations, is integrated into each block. Procedural sessions are overseen by EM attending with support from the simulation team, and scheduled outside of Wednesday didactics.
Residents participate in outpatient-focused sessions using the Yale Primary Care Curriculum. Sessions occur 1 to 3 times per block, featuring rotating preceptors from various resident clinics. Each session incorporates MKSAP-style questions to reinforce learning.
Grand Rounds are held monthly in the hospital auditorium. These interdisciplinary lectures are open to all residency programs.
M&M sessions are held every 4 to 6 weeks. These conferences offer residents an opportunity to analyze complex cases and discuss quality improvement initiatives.
We are a 3-year ACGME-accredited Internal Medicine Training Program. Each year consists of 13 four-week blocks as follows:
